Retail therapy ain't what it used to be. Not that we don't still need the therapy - these days we just can't afford to buy it retail.
But while we may have become stangers at the mall, we can always find a friendly welcome at the Economy Shop, Oak Park's own answer to Niemans on a budget.

Economy Shop succeeds in bad economy

Unlike most businesses, which have suffered because of the recession during the past year, the Economy Shop in Oak Park has seen more customers come through the door and had a recorded rise in sales.
Mention the term "recycling" and most automatically think of glass and plastic. But textiles are another big resource hog and shouldn't be forgotten, advocates say.
*The Economy Shop has started giving all textiles not saleable to US Again.

This is when I learned of the Economy Shop (103 South Grove). Although I lived in Oak Park, I had yet to explore the wonderful array of thrift shops and resale stores in the area. A coworker informed me of an amazing store in my own neighborhood where I could find anything and everything I needed: the Economy Shop. Books, clothes, furniture, absolutely anything. Really? Yes, anything. And so a love affair was borne.
