The Economy Shop celebrated their 90th year by hosting a tea in May. We were so lucky with a warm sunny day (which we haven't been able to say in Chicago lately!)

We had past presidents and volunteers join us for the celebration.

Some really beautiful things came in this week. There is a 10-piece china set with serving bowls, creamer and sugar bowl and many other pieces.

Then, peek at the table it sits on, the details are fantastic. It has claw foot legs holding glass balls. The table came with information stating it was from the 1890's.
Not looking for fine china or vintage pieces, can we interest you in a cuckoo clock !? ..or a robot who does it all (he picks things up, are you thinking what I'm thinking? (someone who will pick up in the house?!)
We have shoes...anyone in need of some spring shoes, soccer cleats, evening shoes you wear once (and bring back to the Economy Shop once you have worn!), all sorts of shoes can be found on the second floor in the shoe department... and apparently WE have feet to fill them.

This week we are highlighting our Sewing Department. We received a donation from a costume shop that closed. We haven't gone through all of the 50-some boxes, but we have unpacked rayon ribbons, vintage fabrics, vintage lace, felt hats in stages on completion, etc. (and keep checking back, more to come...)

..but if that doesn't interest you and you are a size 5 1/2 - 6 in women's shoes...check out the shoe department - it could just be your lucky day.

This week we have shelves, and drawers. Traditional, Mid-Century, tall boys, dresser sets, some with mirrors, light-wood, dark wood, something for the kitchen...you get the point. We are bursting with dressers and sets and more.

Of course all the other rooms are bursting with great finds too.

The sewing room is overflowing with new fabric. Start thinking about  ways you can use 70's knit with some great colorful prints. (if you think of a way, let us know!)

Before: Plastic mountain sheep
After: painted high-gloss red and included in picture collage
First things first, there are only TWO more sales until the close of the season.  Almost everything is 50% off - in every room- some items are up to 75% off.

I would like to share a great find of my own. The plastic mountain sheep head (on the left) was found in the Antiques Room for $4.00 (half off
Thursday, June 3rd
from 9am - 4pm
sale). It was a bit bizzare as is, so I got a little crazy and spray painted it a high-gloss red and hung it in a collage of pictures and items - mostly found at the Economy Shop also (go figure!)

I know my find/creation isn't the only one out there - we would love to hear yours! Maybe a great piece of furniture, or did you redo a whole room in ES finds? Send an email to info@economyshop.org We will post your great use of Economy Shop finds on a blog (to be started next season)
